Our youth-led initiative is dedicated to promoting critical thinking skills and empathy within the prison system, providing incarcerated individuals with access to high-quality reading materials, personalized instruction, and a supportive community. In-Custody Media Literacy Program
In 2023, in conjunction with Educate the Block and the Hudson County Correctional Facility we started our first in custody literacy program. The in-custody literacy program is an educational initiative designed to provide inmates with opportunities to improve their reading, writing, and comprehension skills while incarcerated. These programs aim to address the literacy challenges faced by many incarcerated individuals, which can be a significant barrier to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. In June of 2024, we graduated the pilot cohort and plan to continue providing this much needed service for many more to come.
